So this is probably my 57847392nd blog, and I always say on my first post; this will be it. The blog I will make sure I write on religiously!
But yes, all my blogs never pass through the 5th post mark. Oh well, won't make such promises this time :) So, I've been browsing through a few blogs and all of them have their "About Me"s as their first post. So, here goes I guess-
Well, I'm 20 this year. I'm currently on my gap year, so I've been trying to figure out what to do during this period of time that is productive and profitable. Took me awhile, but I finally managed to get myself involved with this organization called "The Jumping Jelly Beans. They're this performing arts company that do, obviously, plays and musicals, but what drew me towards working with them was the fact that they do a lot of work with children who suffer from Down-Syndrome and Autism. I figured, "Eh, since I have a year of absolutely nothing to do, might as well help the less fortunate". As so my journey begins.. :)
I love doing charity and helping those less fortunate. My mom's involvement in the world of charity has influenced me greatly. I've realized that I have a wonderful life (no, i did not JUST realize this, I'm not THAT daft!) but yeah, I figured there are so many people who are either younger, older or the same age as I that don't have it as good as I do. I figured, what's the harm in helping them once in awhile? It's not like it'd hurt my pocket right?
So, I've only been with JJB for 2 days. And it was a serious eye-opener. I mean, I've had experiences working with little children and orphans, but tending to kids who have a disability was definitely new water to me. The first few minutes were tricky as I didn't know how to treat them (read somewhere that kids with Autism tend to become very over-protective and don't like physical contact that much). But after watching the other people handle these cute kids, I managed to handle them quite well :) But I know, things like this take time. For them to know you and ultimately, feel comfortable and safe around you. But hey, if time is what they need, then time is what I'll give.
Ok, I don't want this first post to be so long (a bit too late for that, I suppose). So I'll stop here. Will continue on another post about further developement in my life.
P.S/ I think I'll use this space to talk about how I feel about certain issues. But I'll try to steer away from politics, that crap is MESSY! Don't feel like having my face on Berita Harian or The Star as a felon, thank you :)
this will be it!
